2026 Local Government Elections

In September & October 2026, elections will be conducted in all 29 of Tasmania’s local government areas, including the election of councillors, a Mayor and a Deputy Mayor to serve a four year term.
Elections are conducted by postal ballot and voting is compulsory for all electors on the State roll.
Brighton Council will have seven (7) Councillor positions open for election.

Brighton Council CEO & LGAT CEO will be facilitating a Candidate Information Session on Thursday, 30th July at 5.30pm the Brighton Civic Centre, 25 Greenpoint Road, Bridgewater.
Learn more about the role of a Councillor and what it means to represent your community. There will also be a Q&A session to ask any questions you may have about becoming a Councillor.

Monday 5 October Ballot packs delivered by post
Tuesday 27 October Close of poll (2pm)
