Waste Management

Waste management is an area of core business for Councils. It encompasses all activities and services that revolve around collecting, disposing and reducing waste. In dealing with waste management, council uses the most effective technologies and methods available while also striving to protect environmental and public health.

All Tasmanian Councils run some form of garbage collection and recycling services and operate waste transfer stations and/or landfill sites. There is a waste transfer station at Bridgewater which is operated by Council.

If you require a new or replacement mobile garbage bin or recycle crate please contact Council's Works Depot on (03) 6268 7030 or download "Request for issue of waste container" and fax to Council on (03) 6268 7031 or email admin@brighton.tas.gov.au

Council offer a delivery service for mobile garbage bins and recycle crates each Wednesday.  You are not required to be home to receive on these bins/crates.  If you require your bins/crates earlier than Council can deliver, you may call into our Works Depot to collect in person.

Please note that Council will not deliver these bins/crates or allow them to be picked up without having received a signed "Request for issue of waste container" form as mentioned above.

Council is also a member of the Southern Waste Strategy Authority. This authority, involving twelve southern Tasmanian councils, works to implement a Waste Management Strategy for Southern Tasmania. It runs a number of programs and educational activities focused on:
- reduction of waste
- re-use
- recycling/reprocessing to recover resources
- responsible waste disposal

Details of the Authority's Business Plan and Programs are available for viewing - Southern Waste Strategy Authority
