About Brighton

Brighton Council is one of 29 Local Authorities throughout Tasmania, with Local Government being the third level of Government after the Federal and State Governments.

Council operates under the provisions of the Local Government Act 1993, which gives Council certain powers and responsibilities to ensure good government for the people of the area.

 

Council provides a wide range of service to the community including:-

 

  • Construction and maintenance of roads
  • Water supply
  • Sewerage treatment facilities
  • Effluent re-use
  • Parks and public amenities
  • Town planning
  • Waste management

 

There are 9 Councillors with elections being held every two years. The Mayor and Deputy Mayor are elected every two years. The next Election is to be held in October 2009.
